Basikol - the natural way to help maintain a
healthy heart and arteries
What is Cholesterol?
Cholesterol is a soft, waxy substance found among the lipids (fats) in the
bloodstream and in body cells. It is an important part of a healthy body as it
is used by the body to form cell membranes, some hormones and other needed
tissue. However excess cholesterol is undesirable and when combined with other
dietary and lifestyle factors cholesterol can build up in blood vessels
(including the coronary artery which supplies blood to the heart muscle).
Keeping these vessels open and flexible is clearly important for normal heart
function. Consequently, keeping blood cholesterol levels within the normal range
is an important part of maintaining a healthy heart and blood vessels.
Cholesterol and other fats are transported in the
bloodstream to and from the cells of the body by special carriers called
lipoproteins. There are several kinds, but the ones most talked about and the
ones that people should be concerned with is the LDL (low density lipoprotein)
cholesterol, "bad" fat and the HDL (high-density lipoprotein) cholesterol, the
"good" fat. Generally, LDLCholesterol transports cholesterol to the cells while
HDL-Cholesterol takes it away for elimination.
We do need some cholesterol for optimal health,
but it is a fine line between having the right amount of cholesterol necessary
for body processes and cholesterol levels that put us at risk.
How do I maintain healthy blood cholesterol
levels?
To keep cholesterol levels in a normal range, limit the intake of foods rich in
saturated fat and trans-fatty acids. Food from plants such as fruits and
vegetables are good because they don't contain cholesterol. Also, eating fish
and flax oil is excellent as both fish and flax is an ideal source of omega-3
fatty-acids that are important for a healthy heart.
What is it?
Basikol - is the natural way to
help maintain a healthy heart and arteries.
Everybody knows that maintaining healthy
cholesterol levels is important for a healthy heart and arteries. Unfortunately,
the Australian diet often contains excess quantities of cholesterol resulting in
high levels of cholesterol in the body.
Naturally occurring in many plant foods including
seeds, nuts, vegetable oils, fruit and vegetables, phytosterols play an
essential role in nature by stabilising cell membranes in plants. But they also
have a beneficial effect in the body by helping to obstruct food-based
cholesterol from being absorbed from the gastrointestinal system and into the
bloodstream.
Phytosterols, known for decades for their
benefits, can be a natural way to help manage cholesterol levels.
What is in it?
Each Basikol capsule contains 200mg of natural plant-derived phytosterols and
2.74mg of d-alphatocopherol acetate (3.72 IU). When used according to
directions, Basikol Capsules will assist with managing the daily in-take of
dietary cholesterol. Plant sterols are also used in cholesterol lowering
margarines however the availability of plant sterols in Basikol Capsules avoids
the in-take of margarine.
