ArkoPharma Australia Migracaps
MiGRACAPS capsules contain Tanacetum parthenium (otherwise known as
Feverfew).
MiGRACAPS may reduce the frequency of migraines. Feverfew has been
traditionally used in herbal medicine to assist in the management of fever and
headaches. It may also assist with pain associated with inflammatory conditions
such as arthritis.
MiGRACAPS -natural and effective
What is Feverfew?
Feverfew has been used for centuries as a relaxant to help lower the frequency
and calm the severity of symptoms associated with migraine headaches. Today,
Feverfew is most often taken as a preventative measure against the onset of
migraine and many other inflammatory conditions.
Many studies have found Feverfew administration to result in a reduction in the
severity of symptoms associated with migraine, as compared to placebo. The mode
of action of Feverfew may involve the inhibition of platelet aggregation and
prostaglandin synthesis. Feverfew has anti-inflammatory and vasodilatory
properties that may work to reduce blood vessel spasms and inhibit the release
of inflammatory substances. Feverfew may benefit many conditions involving
inflammation.
Feverfew is suitable to take in the long term to help minimise the frequency of
migraine attack and, in the short term, to help ease the severity of symptoms.
Feverfew can be taken for many inflammatory conditions ranging from inflammatory
skin conditions to inflammation of body joints.
Mode of Action
* Inhibits serotonin release from platelets
* Inhibits platelet aggregation
* Reduces blood vessel constriction
* Inhibits formation and release of inflammatory substances
Migraine is the result of an inflammatory phenomenon which occurs in the blood
vessels surrounding the brain. Platelets in migraine sufferers have been
demonstrated to aggregate (clump) more readily than in others. This occurs both
spontaneously and when exposed to serotonin and catecholamines such as
adrenaline.
If the blood levels of catecholamines rise, serotonin, which is a potent
vasoconstrictor, is released. This causes platelet aggregation and vasospasm
(spasm of blood vessels) which then leads to an interruption of blood flow to
the brain. This is then followed by a rebound vasodilation (widening of the
blood vessels) and the release of pain inducing substances. This sequence of
events leads to the characteristic symptoms associated with a migraine headache.
Sesquiterpene lactones, particularly parthenolide, are thought to be the main
active constituents of Feverfew. They inhibit platelet aggregation and the
secretion of serotonin which can trigger the vasoconstriction leading to a
migraine.
