Your training time and immediate post workout recovery each day will
generally last no more than a few hours.
In Phase 2 - Post Workout Recovery, we discussed how your muscle
growth can be kicked into high gear with the right post workout nutrients -
MAX'S Post Workout Protein is ideal. To keep this
anabolic state in full swing, it's vital to keep supplying nutrients to your
muscle for the other 20 or so hours in your day. This is when your body
recovers, adapts and grows new muscle fibre and connective tissue and activates
the myriad of other biochemical processes that combine to help you feel well
rested and full of energy.
After a hard training session, it can take up to 3 or 4 days for your
muscles to fully recover and be ready for your next full-on workout.
Getting the right nutrients to your muscles right throughout this recovery and
growth period is essential if you want to maximise all your hard work in the
gym. Experience shows that regular smaller meals, keeps your metabolism high and
packs on the maximum amount of muscle - if you ensure those meals supply the
right nutrients. What you are aiming for is what's known as a positive nitrogen
balance, a state where your system always has protein available for muscle
recovery and growth.
Your body doesn't store excess protein, it basically uses what it
needs to repair body proteins and tissues, and simply breaks down the excess to
be used for energy, other raw materials, or excreted as waste. To build
maximum muscle from heavy weight training, you need to ensure you have protein
in your system virtually all the time, hence regular protein meals, about every
2 - 3 hours right throughout your day is what you are aiming for - this equates
to about 6 - 7 meals every day
Many traditional protein foods like meat, dairy, nuts or eggs, not
only contain protein, but also extra fats or carbohydrates - not ideal if you
