The name of this herb is derived from the appearance of the fruit, which once split looks claw-like. The botanical name, Harpagophytum, is associated with this appearance, the word originating from the Greek harpagos meaning a grappling hook'.

Nature's Sunshine Devil's Claw has been found to display anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-rheumatic and bitter properties.
